न
नागेन्द्रहाराय त्रिलोचनाय
भस्माङ्गरागाय महेश्वराय।
नित्याय शुद्धाय दिगम्बराय
तस्मै "न" काराय नमः शिवाय॥ १
To the one who wears the king of serpents as a garland, who has three eyes, whose body is smeared with sacred ash, the great Lord, the eternal, the pure, the one clad in the space — to that "Na", I bow: Om Namah Shivaya.
म
मन्दाकिनीसलिलचन्दनचर्चिताय
नन्दीश्वरप्रमथनाथमहेश्वराय।
मन्दारपुष्पबहुपुष्पसुपूजिताय
तस्मै "म" काराय नमः शिवाय॥ २
To the one anointed with Mandakini's water and sandalwood paste, the Lord of Nandishvara and the Pramathas, worshipped with Mandara and many flowers — to that "Ma", I bow: Om Namah Shivaya.
शि
शिवाय गौरीवदनाब्जबृंद-
सूर्याय दक्षाध्वरनाशकाय।
श्रीनीलकण्ठाय वृषध्वजाय
तस्मै "शि" काराय नमः शिवाय॥ ३
To the auspicious one who is the sun to the lotus face of Gauri, the destroyer of Daksha's sacrifice, the one with a blue throat (Neelkanth), the one whose banner bears the bull — to that "Shi", I bow: Om Namah Shivaya.
वा
वसिष्ठकुम्भोद्भवगौतमार्य-
मुनीन्द्रदेवार्चितशेखराय।
चन्द्रार्कवैश्वानरलोचनाय
तस्मै "वा" काराय नमः शिवाय॥ ४
To the one whose head is worshipped by great sages like Vasishtha, Agastya and Gautama, whose three eyes are the moon, the sun and fire — to that "Va", I bow: Om Namah Shivaya.
य
यज्ञस्वरूपाय जटाधराय
पिनाकहस्ताय सनातनाय।
दिव्याय देवाय दिगम्बराय
तस्मै "य" काराय नमः शिवाय॥ ५
To the embodiment of sacrifice, the one with matted hair, who holds the Pinaka bow, the eternal, the divine, the one who is unclad (in infinite space) — to that "Ya", I bow: Om Namah Shivaya.
पञ्चाक्षरमिदं पुण्यं यः पठेच्छिवसन्निधौ।
शिवलोकमवाप्नोति शिवेन सह मोदते॥
Whoever recites this sacred five-syllabled (Panchakshara) stotram in the presence of Shiva, he attains the abode of Shiva and rejoices with Shiva himself.
